The rise of inequality has led to a concentration of economic power resulting in growing asymmetries in the ability to influence the political process, but also in novel forms of participation. Policies have often allowed a consolidation of economic privilege and have reduced redistribution, weakening the ability of political democracy to contain drives towards greater inequality. At the same time, high inequality has stimulated changes in political participation, voting behaviour, and a rise of protests and social mobilisations. In order to understand these complex relationships, the conference develops an interdisciplinary approach applied to a variety of national and regional perspectives.

Among the participants, Giovanni Dosi and David Natali of Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies
